THAMS 2027 - Information for Composers

The Thessaloniki Art & Music Summit offers composers an immersive artistic and cultural experience in one of Greece’s most vibrant cities. The 2027 edition provides a structured, supportive, and inspiring environment designed to help you grow as an artist while connecting with fellow composers, performers, and faculty.

In 2027, composers may participate through the THAMS Chamber Music Track or submit an orchestral work for consideration for the Hellenic Music Series — Volume 1: Aphrodite. The Hellenic Music Series is the only orchestral opportunity with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) in 2027.

Professional Performance Opportunities

      - Orchestral Recording Opportunity — Hellenic Music Series

​

• In 2027, TSSO will focus on the Hellenic Music Series — Volume 1: Aphrodite, produced in partnership with ABLAZE Records. There will not be a separate THAMS orchestral performance track in 2027.

• Composers interested in having an orchestral work considered for the Hellenic Music Series should submit directly through ABLAZE Records.

• Selected works will be professionally recorded by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) as part of the Hellenic Music Series.

• Participation in the Hellenic Music Series is separate from participation in the THAMS Chamber Music Track and the complete THAMS festival experience. Composers selected for the Hellenic Music Series who would also like to participate in chamber music, lessons, lectures, cultural activities, or other THAMS events should contact us to learn about available options and fees.

      - Chamber Music Track — dissonArt ensemble and NO EXIT

*applications received by November 15 will be considered for an extra NO EXIT Cleveland performance in the Spring!

• Live rehearsals and public performances of participant works as part of the THAMS chamber music concerts.

• Work with dissonArt ensemble and NO EXIT New Music Ensemble, both dedicated to the performance of contemporary music.

• Direct collaboration with performers experienced in contemporary techniques.

• Receive an audio live recording of your work.

• Professional feedback focused on clarity, playability, and artistic intent.

• Experience working closely with professional chamber musicians throughout the rehearsal and performance process.

Workshops & Artistic Development

• Participate in workshops led by faculty from Global Arts United and Ablaze Records.

• Explore topics such as orchestration, artistic identity, score presentation, rehearsal planning, and career development.

• Engage in roundtable discussions and composer feedback sessions.

Festival Hotel

• THAMS provides participants with housing at a festival-designated hotel, located in Thessaloniki.

• The hotel is chosen for easy access to most THAMS locations​.

Cultural Activities in Thessaloniki

In addition to rehearsals and workshops, participants will experience a curated set of cultural activities, which may include:

• Guided visits to historical sites

• Excursions to museums, markets, and landmarks

• Optional group meals and social gatherings

• Time to explore the city’s vibrant waterfront, cafés, and arts scene

These activities are designed to enrich the festival experience and offer composers a deeper connection to Thessaloniki’s cultural landscape.

Collaborative Atmosphere

• THAMS cultivates a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment.

• You will interact closely with faculty, guest artists, GAU and Ablaze leadership, and fellow participants.

• Networking happens naturally—in rehearsals, during meals, at cultural events, and throughout the festival.
